Welcome to Caney Circle Behike Program
A Behike is a spiritual leader and medicine person within the Taíno Indigenous community. In the Caney Indigenous Spiritual Circle, the Behike is recognized as a ceremonial leader, a teacher, and a moral and ethical model for the community, embodying ideals such as peace, reconciliation, dignity, and compassion. They prioritize the spiritual health of every community member and lead regular ceremonies that reflect Caney tradition, bringing balance to the soul of the community members. The Behike is central to guiding spiritual practices, preserving ceremonial traditions, and fostering leadership development within their community context. This aligns with the Behike Training Program in the Caney, which supports individuals in connecting to their purpose, passion, and drive for service leadership through a structured, multi-year program of teachings and wisdoms.

Core Components
- Histories - Study of Taino origins, colonial impacts, cultural survival, and Caney Circle’s founding history through curated readings and discussion prompts.
- Cemi’no (Sacred Spirits) - Exploration of key spiritual beings in Taino culture, their meanings, symbolism, and ritual roles with visual guides and storytelling.
- Research - Engage in self-directed research on Taino spirituality, cross-cultural studies, and contemporary indigenous renewal, supported by curated resources and mentor-led Zoom check-ins.
- Songs - Learn traditional Taino songs, chants, and ceremonial music with audio materials, lyric sheets, and group practice sessions via Zoom for communal learning.

Caney Circle Spiritual Journey Behike Program Teaching 2
- Duration: 2 years
- Prerequisites: Teaching 1 and to meet with Elders Council via zoom
- Format: Individual activities, group activities, Zoom gatherings
- Start: Spring
- The Behike Leadership Program in the Caney Indigenous Spiritual Circle requires completion of Teaching 1 as a prerequisite, has a duration of 2 years, assigns each participant a mentor for guidance, and admits new candidates in the spring.
- During the Caney Behike Leadership Program, participants undergo extensive training to become ceremonial leaders and spiritual guides within the Caney Circle community. The program includes deep study of Taino spirituality, healing practices, ceremonial traditions, and ethical leadership responsibilities.
- Participants receive mentorship from experienced Beikes, engage in ritual practice, and commit to serving as moral and spiritual role models. The training balances theoretical knowledge, practical ceremony facilitation, and personal spiritual growth over several years.
